The motorship is registered on the R.I.N.A. of Trieste (Registro Italiano Navale - Italian ship's register) and is member n. 2637 of the harbour -office of Monfalcone for the passengers transport. Marano is easly reachable by car; it is situated, infact, ten minutes far from highway A4 (Venice-Trieste-Udine), exit by S. Giorgio di Nogaro.     Go up   General description of the "regional nature reserve"The lagoons of Marano and Grado are a unique complex, situated in the most north side of the Adriatic Sea and also of the entire Mediterranean. The Friulan lagoon system is bounded by the "Isonzo" river to the east and by the "Tagliamento" river to the west, it's about 32 km in length, 5 km wide and has a total surface of approx. 16000 hectares. Both lagoons are separated from the open sea by quite a few islands and sandbanks. The lagoon of Marano forms the most west side of the entire Friulan system and is characterized by the highest water supply coming from the largest resurgence river of the Friulan low plain. The "Stella" is one of the most important rivers, at its mouth grows a very rich flora, which developes in the sandbanks. The main characteristic of this landscape is the "reed thicket" (fragmiteto). The whole mouth of the river "Stella", 1423 hectares, forms the nature reserve and oasis of Marano Lagunare created on the 25th June 1976 with a regional decree. The credit of this foundation goes to the "Hunting reserve Associaton" of Marano, to the municipality, to the "Provincial council" of Udine and to the W.W.F.. The cooperation between the municipality of Marano and the W.W.F. is oriented to an always better management in order to protect this nature reserve (hunting and fowling are forbidden). The international prestige of the mouth of the "Stella" river has been officially sanctioned on the 11th April 1979 by a ministerial decree, which described this landscape: " a humid area with an international importance as habitat for aquatic birds", according to the Ramsar Convention. Today the oasis is a "Regional Nature Reserve", called "Foci del Fiume Stella" Marano Lagunare, thanks to the regional law n. 42/96 regarding the therms for wildlife parks and nature reserves. The most common species which nest here are the Coot, the Mallard, the Garganey, Teals, Pintail, Wigeon, Sholveler, the Scoter, the Velvet Scoter, the Grey Heron and the Purple Heron.
